8 Foot Sativa
West Auckland · Formed: 1998
Named after the cannabis sativa plant, they became a household name in New Zealand's music scene. They are widely credited as the first heavy metal band in the country to break out of the underground scene and bring Kiwi extreme metal into the mainstream.
The band achieved massive local fame with their self-titled signature anthem, "8 Foot Sativa". The track exploded onto the airwaves, spending 12 consecutive weeks at number one on the late-night music show M2 and remaining on the charts for a staggering 8 months. Both their debut album "Hate Made Me" & follow up "Season for Assault" went to Gold status in NZ. Their song "Believer" was selected for the Kiwi horror film "The Locals". They have been dominant in the NZ Top 40 album charts with 3 albums featuring with "Season for Assault" & "The Shadow Masters" peaking at 6 & 5 respectively.
They aggressively toured NZ with successful international world tours spanning the United States, Canada, UK, Europe & Australia. They have shared the big stages with iconic bands such as Metallica, Slipknot, System of a Down, Korn, Fear Factory, Soulfly, and Motörhead. 8 Foot Sativa will go down in the history books as one of the greatest NZ Metal acts to ever do it!
